What’s new in Morsel

New features, small improvements and fixes, newest first. Morsel gets better every week, and much of it comes from what families tell us.

Last update:

  • Improved

Scan a recipe from a PDF

Already scanned the family recipe box to your computer? “Scan a card” now takes PDFs as well as photos, up to 3 pages per recipe.

  • Fixed

Adding a photo to a recipe that didn’t have one

If you edited a recipe that had no photo and added one, the photo could disappear after saving. It now sticks.

  • New

    Scan a recipe card

Snap a photo of a handwritten card and Morsel types it up for you: name, ingredients, servings and steps, ready to check and save. Add the front, the back and an extra page before it reads them. The original card is kept with the recipe in a new “Original Recipe Card” section, so Grandma’s handwriting is never lost.

Save a recipe from a website link

Found a recipe online? Paste the link and Morsel fills in the ingredients, steps and servings. Every recipe can now say where it came from, with a credit and a link back to the original.

Put Morsel on your phone’s home screen

Add Morsel to your home screen and it opens full screen like an app, no app store needed. On Android it’s one tap; on iPhone we show you the two taps.

  • Improved

    Stay signed in

No more surprise sign-outs every 30 days. As long as you open Morsel at least once a month, you stay signed in.

  • Improved

    A lighter, cleaner look

A slimmer menu with a new Cookbooks link, friendlier recipe tiles, and recipe photos shown whole instead of cropped to a thin strip. Tap any photo to see it full size.

  • Improved

    Start a recipe faster

Adding a recipe now opens with two shortcuts side by side, Scan a card and Paste a link, so you can skip the typing. Much less scrolling on phones, too.

  • Improved

    Inviting family is easier

Invite several people at once, get a clear confirmation when invites go out, or copy a private join link and share it by text or WhatsApp. Mistyped emails are flagged instead of failing quietly.

  • Improved

    Better link previews

Texting a Morsel invite now shows a proper preview with your family group’s name and how many recipes it holds, so relatives know it’s really from you.

  • Improved

All your settings on one page

Your profile, plan, card and receipts, notifications and groups now live on one page. And if you leave a group, you choose whether your recipes stay with the family or come with you.

  • Fixed

    Line breaks in recipe steps

Steps typed on several lines were running together as one long line. They now show exactly as you typed them, on recipes you’d already saved too.

  • Fixed

Remove buttons on the recipe form

The little X buttons for removing an ingredient or step were cut off. They’re whole again.

  • Fixed

    Saving your text message choices

Turning text messages on or off could show an error even though it worked. That false alarm is gone.

  • NewBeta

    Printed cookbook preview

Turn a family group’s recipes into a real book and flip through every page before you buy, with the exact price shown right under the preview.

  • Fixed

    Confirming your email

Clicking the link in your welcome email could show an error instead of signing you in, even though your account was confirmed. If that happened to you, sorry! Confirming now signs you straight in.

  • Fixed

The voice memo player on computers

On wider screens the sound bars spilled over the play button and the cook’s photo. They now fit neatly at any size, and the placeholder shows the cook’s name instead of a single letter.

  • New

    Voice memos on recipes

Record a story, a tip or the whole recipe in the cook’s own voice, up to 5 minutes, right in your browser. Anyone opening the recipe can press play.

    Comments and notifications

Talk about a recipe with your family right on its page: comment, reply and ask the cook for their secret. A new bell shows when someone replies, and you choose which notifications you get.

    Search every recipe

Tap the magnifying glass (or press /) to search every recipe you can see across all your groups, by name or ingredient. Results appear as you type.

    A steadier Morsel

We fixed an issue where some uploads, including voice recordings, could knock Morsel offline for a moment, and tuned up the systems behind the app.

On the way

A few things we’re finishing up for the holidays.

Print the handwritten card next to the typed recipe, plus a QR code that plays the cook’s voice memo.
